The below process outlines the instructions for creating a new
connection for a GPRS service on the Jornada 720
(it is intended that you have a GPRS connection).
The examples are based on "Optus yesinfo Internet" and
"Swisscom" services, so you have to
change lines in orange with the
parameters of your service provider.
The Swisscom example simply show the parameters (see at bottom of
page).
Making a new Connection
- Tap on the Start icon
- Tap on Programs then Communications and Remote Networking
- Double tap on the Make New Connection icon
- Enter a name for the connection, eg:
Optus
GPRS
- Ensure the Dial-Up Connection radio button is selected
- Tap on Next to continue
- In the Select a Modem field, choose Generic IrDA Modem
- Tap on Configure
- In the Connection Preferences section, change the Baud Rate field to
57600
- Tap on the Call Options tab
- In the Extra Settings field, enter the following:-
+cgdcont=1,"ip","internet.optus.net.au"
- Tap OK to save and continue
- Tap on TCP/IP Settings
- Ensure the Use Server Assigned IP Address box is ticked
- Tap on the Name Servers tab
- Untick the Use Server Assigned Address checkbox
- In the Primary DNS field enter
202.139.83.3
- In the Secondary DNS field enter
192.65.91.129
- Tap OK to save these settings
- Tap on Next to continue
- In the Telephone Number field, enter
*99#
- Ensure that the Country code and Area code fields are left blank
- Tap on Finish
- Tap on New to create a new location to dial from.
- Enter GPRS as the location name and tap OK
- Ensure the Local and Country Code fields are left blank.
- Ensure the Tone Dialling radio button is selected
- Tap on Dialling Patterns
- In each of the three fields, enter G then tap OK to save and
continue.
- Tap on OK again.
- Test Setup
To establish a GPRS connection:
- Ensure infra red is activated on mobile and directly pointing at I/R
port of the Jornada.
- Tap on Programs then Communications and Remote Networking
- The Jornada should then display: dialling T*99# >User
Authenticated>Connected.
If you are successfully connected to the GPRS network an IP address will
appear on the handset display.
Tip: If using an Internet browser on the PDA, ensure the
browser is configured NOT TO USE a proxy server.
